USDX is the #1 factor to all of the markets. Other major factors are stocks (SP-500), Bonds and CRB index. The main reason is that US Dollar is more closely connected to the whole world, and it has the highest trading volume worldwide every day. All of these markets are interconnected like a web.
POG is usually a leading indicator of USDX because gold has a very small market and very speculative.
