Rightly or wrongly, some folks believe that President Musharraf has been at times at "two-timer" who, while proclaiming to fight terrorism and thus appearing to be cooperating with the Coalition, is also quite "friendly" with the "enemy" to ensure he remains in power. He seems to be quite an adroit politician besides being a military man.

In the recent past a couple of attempts were made on his life. But cynical folks said that those attempts were "staged" to convince the world he has no cosy relationship with the terrorists.

As in Vietnam where many South Vietnamese "cooperators" were actually "two-timers", I believe there are two-timers in Afghanistan who render the US's efforts there quite ineffective.

Maybe that will explain why the US forces are acting the way they do now. But I think a stronger reason is that the US (Bush in particular) wants very much to take full credit for every and any success against the enemy. (Recall the capture of Saddam was done solely by US forces!) Also, Bush is imitating Reagan who was much admired for his courage and forthright actions.

IMHO, Bush is a nobody: he is a puppet in Washington who gets most of his ideas from his advisers and aides and think-tanks. Result: embarrassment for the US worldwide and for the GOP at home. I believe it is no accident that Bush Senior played a very big part in picking Cheney ( a former trusted veep of Bush Senior as the Veep to guide his not so smart junior.
