Air America is doomed

By KEN BLACK

For those of you who haven't heard about Air America, don't bother trying to learn. It appears as though the station, the great liberal infomercial disguised as a radio network, will be off the air in just about every market before too long.

The doomed project started several months ago in a much ballyhooed media campaign that saw stories on just about every major network. If you have not heard about the recent troubles the network has been in, you are not alone.

Although major media outlets and all the national network extensively covered the unveiling with a level of passion not normally seen among seasoned journalists, there have been relatively few mentions of Air America since they started getting into trouble.

Again, the national media is demonstrating its bias toward the liberal philosophy. They are basically saying, "We'll report the good stuff, but we'll just let the bad stuff slip by us."

But it's not like Air America means the end of liberal radio across the United States. National Public Radio still exists. Of course, in the interest of freedom of speech, that network is supported by our tax dollars.

Ironical, isn't it? A network that basically supports state control of everything is operated by the state. Who would have figured?

Taking a look at the network news nightly, you'd think America was a socialist utopia, and President Bush was just an anomaly the exception that proves the rule.

And now Al Gore wants to start a liberal television network. You all remember him, don't you? You know, the loser in the last presidential election. The person who nearly plunged the country into the throes of a Constitutional crisis for his own hubris?

For some reason, three networks is not enough for the former presidential candidate. He thinks there needs to be an even stronger media outlet providing the liberal message.

And we all know what that is, right?

Abortion, higher taxes, less individual freedom (unless you’re talking about abortion or drugs, of course).

Is it any wonder why a message like that would not sell well? It's just depressing.

Conservatives were worried that a network devoted just to liberals would give them a chance to deceive people as to what they really stood for. Rather, it just allowed them to expose themselves.

It is actually much better for liberals when they don't volunteer information about their views to the public.

Someone should give him the memo and tell him to save his money. Principles on the left, which include socialism and communism, just don't sell well in a free enterprise marketplace. And when you’re depending on advertisers to support your project, that is not a good mix.

So there you have it, the end of the great social experiment that was outright, blatant liberalism in the media. But for those out there who may be sorry that it is over, don't fret.

With the nightly news, public radio and television, you still have some old stalwarts to fall back on. And, if you have satellite or certain cable systems, you may be able to get the British Broadcasting Company just in case you can't find enough hatred of America domestically.

Ya ever figure out why Air America, biting Liberal commentary, only employs comedians?
