I agree totally ... in a completely different way.

Jesus did not bring a new moral code. He preached the law of Moses and the OT. God has always looked down upon materialism.

Deuteronomy 8:17
You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me."
18 But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth

Exodus 22:25
If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not be like a moneylender; charge him no interest.

Ecclesiastes 5:10
Whoever loves money never has money enough...

Job 36:19
Would your wealth or even all your mighty efforts sustain you so you would not be in distress?

psalm 49:5 ...when wicked deceivers surround me-
6 those who trust in their wealth
and boast of their great riches?

Psalm 112
1 Praise the LORD.
3 Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his righteousness endures forever.

Proverbs 3:9
Honor the LORD with your wealth
