I disagree. Peace has to begin somewhere. Settling the Palestinian issue would go a long way towards bringing peace and stability to the Middle East. Sure, there would still be radical arab elements that would want to destroy Isreal, but so what? There are still radical American elements that are left over from the civil war that want to destroy America. They are irrelevant, and I believe the radical arabs would become irrelevant too. Once their cause of liberating the Palestinians has passed, they will pass into irrelvency. The arab people will focus on nation building and building their economy. In any case, it would be a good move to lessen the threat of terrorism to bring about peace between the Isrealies and Palestinians.

Wind is a viable alternative now. It's cost competitive with coal, gas, oil, etc, in the 4 to 6 cents per kWH range. That's why GE is getting into wind in a big way. Solar still has a ways to go, but is making progress. 50% efficient solar cells are on the horizon, and cheaper materials too, should bring down their costs. Biofuels like BioDiesel and Ethanol are real alternatives that could be promoted more by the government. The EV-1 was a success as far as I understood it. The people who drove them, loved them. GM didn't give a good rationale for ending the program. A 100+ mile electric car could be used as a real alternative, commuting car, around town car. I've read about new battery technology that instantly charges and give a higher range. A lot more could be done with electrics. We could make a big dent in our foreign oil dependence if we had the will to do so. The technology is there today, or is emerging. Moore should be raising awareness of alternative energy. Perhaps a good use for his Mi$$ions.
