No, there is no direct evidence that Saddam was responsible for 9/11. But during the Clinton Administration, bin Laden declared war on the United States largely because of its policy of "containing Iraq".

You know, Democrats are digging quite a hole for themselves. If Kerry wins, he has already stated that U.S. troops will remain in Iraq (some supporting him complaining, that there are not enough troops; others supporting him, trying to bring back the draft). Keeping U.S. troops in Iraq by saying that "the Previous Administration lied and falsely led an invasion of Iraq, so now we have to stay - and accomplish all of the Bush Administration's goals in Iraq" - isn't going to fly very well (but a President Kerry will have to make it fly).
