Analogies are based on relevant similarity, not sameness. Hat is to head as glove is to hand, no matter how different the compared terms are otherwise, so pointing out difference, in itself, is useless, you have to argue against the specific analogy. I was, in fact, using his reference to liberation ironically. We surely were as much or more an occupying power in Germany, than in Iraq, which did not prevent us from installing a democratic regime firmly anchored to the West. That is the relevant analogy.
