Full democracy is an error, but it is true that there were ubiquitous municipal elections, and therefore that it is the most democratized country in the region, after Israel.
I don't know why seems necessary to point this out more than once (or even once, for that matter), but Turkey is in the Middle East, is Islamic and is quite democratic. And has a separation of religion and state to boot.

The rhetorical nonsense put out by Bush supporters--even educated ones--on Iraq is remarkable at times. Truly remarkable.
