One group that kills and tortures is comparable in "badness", albeit of differing degrees, to another that kills and tortures. Try to look at this objectively, and you will see what I mean. Say, if France invaded an African country on false premises, killed 10,000 people, and then started torturing the locals. I bet you would not be as fast to protect them from criticism.
