Because any bum will tell you that living without meaning for even a decade or two makes suicide a sweet option. After several trillion years of living without any consequence of death or disablement (i.e. without meaning because all choices are equally vapid)...then what?

There is no longer even a pretense of free will or of rational consequence (just try to jump off that cliff and kill yourself. Just try to drink gasoline and do yourself in--not a chance). Ride a roller coaster...you can't lose. Bet 331 trillion dollars on one blackjack hand? GO FOR IT! How exciting! You will still have a virgin to eat, a chicken to eat, and perfect teeth. No pain or suffering...and no pleasure.

If you cannot come to harm nor death regardless of how you act...then you cannot create a meaningful distinction between actions. Just get out of bed and smash your head against the wall. It will be without pain, pleasure, or meaning. Or eat an egg for the same sensation. And don't ever stop being meaningless, useless, and invisible.

The only way to stop it would be to find a way to force God to let you die by appeal to His pompous self interest. I can't remember the name of that Asimov story. I think he beat God in the end.
