President Bush is less interested in what history says than what voters say in 130 days.
Come on. Let's get real. What first term Prexy (other than maybe LBJ) could that NOT be said of? This is called "politics". It's a dirty game. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

He would deny he had ever claimed links between Saddam Hussein and Sept. 11, asserting only that he claimed links between Saddam and al-Qaeda.
High officials in the Iraqi gov't DID meet with al Qaeda before 911. What was discussed? Who knows?

No sooner had the commission made its statement last week, than the president and vice president tried to dismiss it: "There was a relationship between Iraq and al-Qaeda," said Bush Thursday. "The evidence is overwhelming" of such a link, said Dick Cheney Friday.
And that's the way I remember it: Bush did not himself make such statements. Did people very high in his administration? Yes.

Both Bush and Cheney had refused to testify publicly before the commission, and Cheney's suggestion that he might have withheld something in his private testimony clearly startled commission chairman Thomas Kean.
More bogosity. Presidents, Democratic and Republican alike, have COMMONLY claimed executive provilege and refused to testify under oath. Clinton did so until the USSC ruled he could not in a civil case.

Were there WMD? There used to be. If there were in 2002, SH did a terrific job of disappearing them.

Were there contacts between al Qaeda an the Iraqi gov't? Yes.

Was Iraq involved in 911? There is no good evidence indicating that.
