I'm sorry KLP, I have no readily available links. I do recall, however, reading that the "projected" troop levels were in the 50K or less range beginning a few months or a year after the end of the "war." I can't say where I gained that belief or if it's accurate.

If they had accurately projected current troop level requirements, however, then there would, of course, have been some kind of planning to alleviate the lengthy extensions of tours and contortions in assignments that they're going through to provide sufficient manpower to man even the "turtled" presence we now have.
