JeffA, If it was a convertible, it must have been 1969 or above. I think the rarest of the standard Cougars (as opposed to the XR7-Gs, GTEs, Eliminators, etc) was the 1970 XR7 convertible, they made very few of those. Do you remember what engine was in the Cougar you looked at?

Agreed, the old Cougars are snazzy cars. However, those hideaway headlights can be a serious problem when the land freezes over with ice and snow. That is to say, they want to stay hidden away. And don't get me started on those sequential turn signals! To replace that nifty little part, you'd better start thinking about mortgaging the ol' homestead.

A few years back, a police officer pulled me over, "License and registration and proof of insurance, please?" As he is scrutinizing my driver license and registration, he remarks, "You know? You hardly ever see one of these old Cougars anymore, especially one with those sequential turn signals still working. Unfortunately, your brake lights don't." Whereupon, he proceeded to give me a fix-it ticket. The dlot! <g> - Holly
