Yaacov, I thought I had responded earlier, but must have punched the wrong button.

In my personal opinion, there is no room for diplomacy in war. People are trying to kill other people, and nations are trying to crush other nations. There should be a total conclusion to the fighting, and threats of fighting, before the winning side even thinks about diplomacy.

We did that with Japan, and Germany, after total defeat was accepted by both nations, and it worked out well for many years. Japan is still a staunch ally, but Germany has begun to waver under the pressure of the new European mini united nations.
