"I know specifically of two marriages that ended because of this long deployment"

Are you sure about this? I certainly would not want to hang out with anyone who would abandon their family for something out of their control, nor would I want to be married by one.

My bet is this is just bs from you. But if that is truly the reason they broke up their family then they are creepy, unloyal despicable people that you know. Heartless too.

I know specifically of two marriages that ended because of this long deployment.

This is just the result of the leftianic tendency to blame others for one's own faults. An extended deployment is called Life, pal. It is like sickness and economic difficulty, except not nearly as awful. These things happen because Life happens. To blame them for the breakup of a family is to say "Life broke up two families."

It is a lie. I happen to know a bit about marriage and I am convinced that if the marriages broke up, the extended tour had scarcely anything to do with it. The marriages were weak marriages and with fundamental difficulties to begin with. If something so relatively petty as an extended tour of duty would kill them, then surely any of the common, yet severer trials of life would also.
