Yes, these neocons are not your father's conservatives. They are really really wicked. I don't quite know how they developed, but I consider 2000 a coup d'etat. It started with the sexual witchhunt of Whitewater (which should never have been allowed) then Bush's campaign lies (falsely portraying himself as a moderate) and cheating in Florida. They were also lucky Dems were complacent, Nader was there and that they had a friendly Supreme Court.

Once they were in power they acted as if they had won some huge mandate when they'd actually lost and gotten in on a technicality. They immediately started acting like bullies, pricks, hardnosed brown shirts and started bossing around everyone in sight. Worse yet, their priorities were pro-pollution, energy gouging, SDI contracts, a military build up, taking out Saddam, handing out money to cronies and a huge tax cut for the rich. They did not utter a word about terrorism or care if the budget were ever balanced. They also openly scorned environmentalism, conservation, european allies and bi-partisanship.
