Everything from our foreign oil dependence, to flat tires, to stolen cars, the Republicans and/or their corporate benefactors sit back and do nothing to solve these problems. All are problems in early 21st Century that can be fixed if we had the will to do so. Which is one of the criticisms about Michael Moore that is fair also, he's great at pointing out problems, but short on solutions. With a concerted effort, there's no reasons why our great country couldn't effectively end our dependce on foreign oil by 2015 at the latest. We've got electric cars that get 100+ miles per charge, and the technology is getting better all the time. Also, we have hybrids coming on line, which could double the gas milage of SUVs and light trucks. We've got hydrogen/fuel cell cars in development, not as far off as many people are lead to believe. There's nothing inherently expensive about fuel cells. Our oil dependence problem is finally solvable. As far as something as simple as flat tires, I saw a few recent newsstories about companies that are developing tires that don't go flat. They don't have air in them. They're made out of solid materials. They might overtake the market in the coming years, but of course Goodyear, Michellin, etc. aren't going to give up their market without a fight. Imagine that, the problem of flat tires being a thing of the past. That would mean less accidents on our highways. But, of course, less tire sales too as people wouldn't have to replace them as often. How about stolen care? I don't see how that problem will ever be solved entirely, but there are a lot more common sense things we could do to make cars harder to steal. How about a new ignition system that is impossible to hotwire? That would cut down on car theft by a huge degree. No reason we couldn't develope a new ignition system in this day and age.
