I do remember the Bemer Digit, though I thought the Bemer Bux to be a more significant and useful contribution. It's a bit difficult carrying around a million dollars in pocket change.

Ahhh, yes. Bigits. Bob sat in my living room and described the technical process in great detail, as well as the history of computing from the Bemer perspective. He went into great detail about the high level government briefings he attended on Y2K, where he presented as an expert witness.

He was convinced that Bigits was the answer to the entire Y2K problem, and couldn't understand why everybody didn't line up to buy his solution.

He was most definitely a "character". He even offered to have my wife take a picture of us standing behind his car that had the vanity plate "ASCII" on it. By the look on his face when I declined, I think I hurt his feelings. I've regretted that ever since.

Bob Bemer was a likable old coot.

Eccentric, yes. But, ain't we all?
