I don't think any one needs to apologize for espousing an idea that is Socialist or a Capitalist. These are just polarized states that force individuals to choose sides. There is nothing wrong with a Socialist state adopting Capitalist principles (as is the case with China) or a Capitalist state adopting Socialist principles (U.K.). In fact, it would only be bad if normalization of this kind was not occurring. When I went to the U.K., I didn't see the homeless problem we have here. I think that is a good thing. I also saw better land use policies.

When land is no longer pristine, it is the true test of a culture to see how they implement a sustainable economy under those conditions. The English (post-Industrial revolution) have had to deal with the fact that they destroyed their native forests. When you fly over the U.K. you see a scalable patch quilt of green belts and controlled urbanization, now.

Americans live large and they have to stop. Looking around at our allies for guidance (many of whom have done quite well when it comes to the things we consider to be standard of living measures) is a better option than ignoring the problem and pandering to the wills of a few rich guys.
