There is nothing partisan about me. I am an equal opportunity dissident and I think both parties stink (some members more than others, but there is no party line division there) :-)

If you go back to my prewar posts, you'll see I argued that if congress really believes in the necessity of war and they have a shred of patriotism in them, then they would sign up their own kids and grand kids for the war. In fact I'd say this should be a mandatory requirement for approving the war. At the time I said this, I also said that there is no need for those kids to serve at the front line; second and third lines would have been enough. So long as they'd have some sort of real connection to the war say as a moral officer, a reporter, or just special ears and eyes of the congress. This would assure wiser decisions on matters of war for this generation and even wiser ones should any of those kids take after their fathers.

My argument has been there is something very immoral about those who tell others that the country is in such grave danger that they must put their lives on the line, but somehow they do not see it fit to sign up their own family members. They would however happily collect big pay checks from tax payers and from various lobbies.

Incidentally over the weekend I saw Fahrenheit 9/11. One of the points of the movie was that only one congressman had son who was serving. How come? Aren't the rest of them interested in protecting the nation?

The whole thing reminds me of the final words of an AQ suicide bomber (it was published on this thread about a year ago). In it the would be "martyr" says he finds it very disturbing that none of the clerics who call us to martyrdom pick up the cause themselves? Do they not desire going to the heaven? Or do they think their duties end at just getting others to die for the cause.

...and this is yet another similarity between the two sides.

regards,
ST
