I had $100k sitting in a Washington Mutual "Platinum Account" when they were paying 2.5%, as did many friends of mine.

We all closed our accounts five months ago within days after Wamu dropped the rate to 1.36%.

I too think the margins in their business has collapsed.

Until the Fed pulls it together, which I wouldn't count on any time soon, Citibank Australia pays 5.4% on AUD while Citibank London pays 4.25% on Sterling accounts.
