The WMD threat was one of a number of justifications for overthrowing Saddam. You can check the Congressional authorizing resolution which I've posted a number of times for a long list of justifications.

Then he talked about regime change. Congress passed the Iraq Liberation Act in 1998 and regime change in Iraq has been a US goal ever since. Even Gore promised to get rid of Saddam during the 2000 campaign. Both Gore's promise and the ILA of 1998 I've also posted on SI a few times.

He drove Saddam out all right, but after Saddam what? He didn't plan for that.

Actually the plan was to foster democracy in Iraq. That's still the plan. The UN is on record as supporting this BTW.

And then he ends up turning over sovereignty in a clandestine fashion.

Huh, he said by June 30 and it was done a couple days early.
