Thanks, I understand your view. Basically we disagree on whether provocation is a crucial requirement for terrorism.

I'd suggest we give the conciliatory approach a trial, then re-assess. The next president, whoever he is, will have a really crappy term because of various international and economic issues. So I think its arguable whether the next 4 years are a very desirable goal anyway.

You're not going back far enough. Try Mossedeq in 1953. The real roots of Islamic Militant growth are due to fundamental short term tactical goals over the years. Particularly our installation of the puppet Shah regime.

Violence will only create more Militants.

We have to learn to support democracy even when it hurts not just when it suits us.

Otherwise we have a state of constant warfare right out of 1984.
