There is some truth to what she says. If there's one thing true about American politics, it's that we are awfully confused as a nation. The states that are the biggest Republican states (red states), also tend to be the states that get the most back from the federal government, and pay into the federal system the least. These people vote for less government, but are fine taking what they can in excess of what they pay into the government every year. Crazy, but all too true. It's kind of like Michael Moore criticizing American opulence, while partaking in his own little opulent lifestyle out of pure convience.
