So why do you trust the Bush Administration?

Because they didn't lie. Unlike you, I don't ascribe deliberate lying when something someone honestly believed turns out to be false.

This whole 'Bush lied!' argument falls down on its face the moment you look at him in an even semi-moderate way, as a politician, and not as a Michael Moore caricature 'he only cares about the Saudis, Haliberton, whatever'.

Bush had multiple reasons to go into Iraq. The chief one was geopolitical. The US could not afford the climbdown to Saddam which was plainly coming, and could not afford more of the State Department's 'reality above everything' policy, since that had brought us 9/11.

Bush chose the WMD arguments as his top argument when he was persuaded by Powell and Blair to go to the UN. Saddam was in flaglant violation of 17 UN resolutions, which mostly touched on forbidden weapons systems.

Now, let's assume for the sake of argument that Bush is utterly Machivellian and would have said or done anything to get his war. I don't believe it, but let's assume it.

Why, for heaven's sake, would he have picked, as argument Number One, the presence of WMDs, if he KNEW that as soon as he went into Iraq, it would exposed as a falsehood and damage his credibility? There were many other arugments. Support for terrorism. Continuing flouting of UN resolutions. Failure of sanctions. Humanitarian arguments above all - starving the Iraqis to build palaces. Mass Graves. etc.

So why would Bush deliberately lie, knowing it would come right back to bite him? It just doesn't add up. It makes no sense.

The left is so unhinged that they cannot look as George Bush as a politician, which he plainly is. And they are unhinging the whole Democratic Party.
