these are high-end handsets so you cant really compare the prices to the average GSM handset

Thanks for the link. I agree with you here, which is why I find it strange when I see articles claiming that the price will be "competitive" with GSM handsets.

He said the price of GSM1X phones will be about the same as GSM phones on the market, so price won't be an obstacle., from Jim's post Message 20263905

Furthermore, 500,000 phones wouldn't seem like much of a "primary focus." It's less than 2 weeks of inventory for GSM gross adds. It should still add about 1 cent in upside eps surprise, if Jim is right that the "analysts" have failed to keep track of this development.
