Paul Volcker raised interest rates sky-high, and caused a deep recession which brought about an eventual recovery and later a fabulous revival in the 80s. Don't blame it on Carter. His looney family members and troubled Georgia friends did cause a lot of turmoil. And what could be done about Khomeini in Iran? The weakest point was Carter's concern with human rights which was taken advantage of by our enemies again and again.
