What about Bush's flip-flops? Why not make fun of them?
On Iraq, North Korea, Kyoto, humble foreign policy, education funding and all of his broken promises.

In fact Kerry has no flip-flops. He simply wants to fix a few programs that are broken and need fixing. In that respect he agrees with many conservatives. He also has been 100% consistent on Iraq. The only position he's changed is on capital punishment for terrorists, and he changed that after 9-11. Bush claims he also changed after 9-11. In fact he changed into an irrational reckless deceitful maniac. So what's the beef?

I would suggest that there are a few important details in running the US government. There is a balanced budget, there is making a judicial judgement about conducting a war, there is executing the war so that it isn't a disaster, sh-t I could go on for pages.

Bush "tends to push for results" without even thinking about consequences. I can't believe so many folks are claiming that stupid, impulsive and unthinking is a positive attribute for a President of the US.

Ted, thanks for posting the interview and providing context. Where did you find it?

Google.

As much as I like to poke fun at Kerry's flip-flops, the bottom line is that he is a man very concerned about minutiae.

That's exactly what you need to run a country as complicated and as important as this one. Its the lack of concern over details that has undermined the current administration.

You might prefer that over the approach of Bush, who tends to push for results and worry about the details later.

Yeah.......for good reason.

Of course, I have two problems with Kerry's approach:

- It gives him the ability to straddle the fence and mold his rhetoric toward whatever suits the changing political winds.

In situations like that, you need to "straddle the fence" to insure you have all your bases covered and several ways to get out......its called the fine art of diplomacy. Only an idiot gets himself boxed in like Bush did.

You ascribe bravado attributes to Bush's behavior; I consider them to be ones found more commonly among the brash and inexperienced.

- It tends to shoot for trying to please everyone all of the time. There is no overall vision guiding Kerry's stance on the issues, unless you prefer looking at trees over the whole forest.

To be able to talk like he did you have to have vision. Bush thinks he has vision because that's what his handlers are telling him.

That, plus my impression that Kerry is very averse to political risk, makes me think this guy really is another Gray Davis.

You keep making that comparison but I don't see it. Kerry isn't my first choice but he's still a good choice.
