Captured U.S. Marine Deserted in Iraq, New York Times Reports

June 30 (Bloomberg) -- A U.S. Marine captured by terrorists in Iraq had deserted the military and was trying to reach his native Lebanon, the New York Times reported, citing an unidentified Marine officer.

Corporal Wassef Ali Hassoun wanted to quit the army after he witnessed a member of his unit being killed by a mortar shell in Iraq, the New York Times said on its Web site, citing the officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The corporal befriended Iraqis on his base who helped him leave the post and then handed him over to the terrorists, the officer told the newspaper. Qatar-based al-Jazeera television broadcast a videotape earlier this week purportedly showing the man being held hostage.

While acknowledging reports that Hassoun was captured, the U.S. military said in a statement this week it was unable to confirm that he is being held hostage. Hassoun, 24, who went missing June 21, joined the Marine Corps to work as a translator, the New York Times said.

Soros was 15 at the end of WW II. Are you suggesting he was an immoral teenager?

What's a little ignorant innuendo among friends?
