Bill, I think everyone who got discharged during the Vietnam Era pretty much felt the same way. I did my time, so you'd damned well better grab somebody else if you have a problem.

When I was a DOD civilian, we were constantly making and re-making war plans. One plan, in case of war, had my position immediately becoming commissioned as a Light Colonel. I asked if they meant an officer would take over and they said, "no, you or whoever held your position would be commissioned into the Army." I protested. The fella was shocked and re-worked the plan. The next time he came back, my position would become a Warrant Officer. It was the first time I've ever lost rank over a "let's pretend" position. <g> Fortunately, nobody ever gave his ideas any credibility.
