The charges Kerry made emboldened the enemy and helped put the soldiers still there in peril. The charges were unsupported and ill-timed.

Kerry made no charges. He told congress what had been shared at a meeting of Vietnam vets. He did not need to support what he said, because first they were not charges. It was testimony relating the experiences of others as related to Kerry in the recent meetings.

The enemy was neither emboldened nor aided by the testimony in Congress. That is simply right wing fear mongering. In a democracy...and last time I checked we still live in a democracy...we engage in open discussion on policy and politics. While some would like to operate secretly and above the law...most of us wish to abide by the time honored traditions of this free nation. How else will this government be a government of the people, by the people and for the people?

The reason for fighting the war in Nam was to bring democracy to them. Should we some how suspend democracy when ever we're fighting a war to impose democracy on another country?

Should we not worry about civil rights? About detainees who have committed no crime? About abuse of detainees? About war crimes? About atrocities?

In a democracy we not only have to worry about these things, we are bound by our moral code and by the Constitution to make sure that we do not fall silent.
