I like the way Steve says that Nixon ended Vietnam. The American public wanted to end it (some thought it was morally wrong, others thought it was futile), but Nixon escalated it secretly and illegally. Finally, he was grudgingly forced to end it as his administration collapsed under the weight of its own corruption.

Yes, of course, and if Rummie and Cheney had had their way, we would still be fighting in Vietnam.

If someone wants to understand the mindset of a Rummie or Cheney, all one has to do is read DR's posts.

He too believes that the American people were stupid to stop the war in Vietnam, and had we endured, it would have been won. Of course, he ignores the fact that like Bush, Johnson staged the reason for going to war. They think duping an entire nation, a democratic one at that, is perfectly acceptable. Ironically, they also see themselves as strong patriots.

Tom,

Nixon escalated it secretly and illegally.

Are you turning into AS? The war escalated under LBJ.
