true, it can be traced back to the supreme court nominations. it is there that true core idealogical disputes (abortion, religion, et al) that define our society manifest themselves and the costs of losing are seen as too high (and too irreversible), by both sides. imho, however, the wrangling should be contained within the selection process. i do not believe it was right to escalate the situation by targeting the pres. -el Incidentally, just for the sake of full disclosure, I would not consider myself democrat or republican, I tend to decide issues and candidates as they come.
