It was quite enlightening; that's not what I expected from him, even having seen F9/11. This kid has worshipped the flag as long as I've known him; he went to military school and as a freshman used to pick fights with upper classmen whom he felt were disrespecting their uniforms.

Food for thought.

Lately, I've noticed a few people changing their position. I have a friend who is a CPA and very much a conservative; voted for Bush in 2000. I didn't know until about 9 mos. ago.........when I found out, I strongly suggested we keep politics out of our conversations. He agreed.

Well, two months ago, he got on the treadmill next to me and turned and said: "Bush is nuts.....tell me about Kerry". I was really surprised. However, you have to remember that this is liberal Seattle and he's probably closer to a Ripon Republican rather than a TX one.

Having said that, I believe that Bush's core supporters are still very much behind him.

Well said btw. I hope your friend is okay over there.

Z,

re: Last night, I spent some time with a friend who's getting shipped to Iraq in September.

It will be interesting to hear his thinking after he returns. There is a survey out (may have been posted, I've been too busy to read the thread) that 17% of folks returning from Iraq have a mental illness.

An unknown aspect of wars is number of soldiers whose lives are ruined by the experience. It's probably more than those that are killed or wounded.
