Efforts to simplify the federal tax code in the 1980s eliminated the sales tax deduction, unfairly penalizing taxpayers in states without income taxes, including Washington.

Do you know anything about how he would implement it? As I recall, the deduction was eliminated for a reason. I would just skip the deduction rather than keeping all my receipts in a shoe box. In Virginia we are supposed to pay sales tax to Virginia for everything on which Va sales tax wasn't deducted, like mail order purchases. It's all but impossible to keep track.
