Its the not-invented-here syndrome.
Kofi Annan cannot let anyone know a common citizen( thats you, haha) invented such a significant idea. You will just have to relax and let nature take its course and let someone higher up the totem take the credit as Boeing workers must do.

They will just adopt the ideas and change the name and so try to disguise the true inventor.

I put it down to ego, NIH syndrome, dominance behaviour, preference for the familiar, the status quo, present privilege, and the like. Governments are good at suppressing anything new. So are most people.

I just perceive it to be the result of simple arrogance, elitist mentality, and plain intellectual laziness..
