At the end of the day if a chip designer in Tiajuana can do the same job as a chip designer one hour North in San Diego, CSCO ought to employ the Tijuana-based dude.

ONLY if the senior management at cisco is willing to accept the decline in buying power from the US-base. If Cisco is willing to accept mexico gross margins WORLDWIDE, then by all means move your entire workforce offshore.

What you are describing, a sort of micro perspective on a shift with much larger ramifications, has been documented extensively in a set of books generally titled "the race to the bottom". Of course we all know the capex spending climate is directly affected by hiring that tijuana worker.

Tell me when you think Cisco stock will hit $40. I don't think its possible thanks to globalization.

It's really very simple. If a job skill is very common throughout the world, then IT HAS CEASED TO BE A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE FOR THE U.S.

So why should we pay more for a commodity skill? Answer is we shouldn't. We should be focusing on learning or creating the skills we think will be the next competitive advantage.
