I served proudly for 12 years, I think thats more than enough more than most Americans. Posted by: Brian on June 30, 2004 01:08 PM America is a country that is so caught up in the idea of being succesful that they care not about the single soldier. It dosn't matter that you did your time, the army always has a way to make you feel like it isn't enough. You can work hard the whole time you are in, never do wrong, but once it is your turn to leave it now seems impossible. I am two months away from the end of my four year enlistment, and all I have been planning is to go to college and marry the girl who has been waiting all this time. Through both my tours in combat I raq included. This does not matter to the Army, Government, or American people. They will quickly rape me of the same exact freedom that I thought I spent the last for years defending. While many Americans sit at home doing nothing, those of us who volunteer to help and serve our country are the ones getting screwed. My views on America are permanetley changed and the experience has left me disgusted with our system of politics. So do not join the service for you will never get out, you will permanetley be a number to the government and the American people. Way to go USA. Posted by: Mike Miller on June 30, 2004 02:04 PM Perhaps we could try to rely on more help from other countries for a change. Are we americans too proud to admit we have gotten ourselves in too deep (rightly or wrongly)? What happened to the Doves? What happened to the America of an older era that had to be dragged to war very reluctantly, and then only in order to keep the world from being overrun by a madman. As for the issue of IRR. I feel it would be more fair for IRR soldiers to be recalled only for domestic military service but not in a foreign country. So If we get attacked or invaded on our own shores or have an incredibly huge natural disaster we could draw on that resource. However these people should only have to be recalled in a real state of emergency of that magnitude. We vetrans who still have IRR commitments have put in our time with honor. We have lived up to the original intended obligation. We have worked hard, stressfull jobs over long hours. And in many cases have gotten little "respect" and "courtesy" from those so called leaders above us. Quite often the job wan't pleasant but we stuck with it because we believed the end was in sight. Some of us like myself have even sacrificed parts of our body and will never be the same physically. I would like to not think of myself as a coward. However I also don't feel we should have to be recalled to war because of poor planning and for a quetionable cause with little support. May God Bless you all. Posted by: Sam on June 30, 2004 08:20 PM
