Good morning Jay, while you are exchanging cash for gold [which is just cash by another name] most people are exchanging cash for silicon, which is an elemental opposite of gold. It is dull black where gold is shiny yellow, reactive while gold is stable, prolific while gold is rare, cheap where gold is expensive, functional where gold just sits there being 'valuable'.

<SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Worldwide sales of semiconductors jumped 36.9 percent to $17.32 billion in May to their highest level since December 2000, the Semiconductor Industry Association said on Friday.

Memory and cellular phone chips were especially strong in the month, though analysts said it appeared that industry sales growth could slow in the months ahead.....continued...

Guess where that silicon is being used. Here's a clue:
Q [U] = 730
G = 398

Some advanced mathematics shows that Q has nearly doubled compared with G since parity a couple of years ago, when I started comparing the value of the two currencies. Before that G was higher than Q.

Aztecs propitiate the gods with the still-beating hearts of the terrorized victims held aloft by the gold-wearing obsidian knife-wielding priests of horror. Gold has always been the talisman of the barbarian alpha male tribal, territorial, dominance hierarchies where wealth is found or taken and serfs were enslaved to Kings. Gold is the idolator's trophy.

While we have not yet arrived at Utopia, with U the currency of choice [nee Q], we have moved on.

Now, we Cyberspacoids propitiate the gods with the integrated synergistic thrum of umpty petatrillions of CDMA phragmented photons, bringing peace, light, harmony, happiness, health, prosperity, longevity, fun and love to the CDMA acolytes.

Meanwhile, Osama's atavistic marauders seem to be planning a big bang, perhaps in both Europe and the USA.

<1 - "To the European people: You only have a few more days to accept bin Laden's truce or you will only have yourselves to blame."

2- "Muslims who live in the West should depart to Muslim states if they can. Those who cannot should take precautions and live in Muslim areas, have enough food to last a month, find ways to protect themselves and their families, leave enough money in the house to last one month or longer and to pray a lot and put their fate in God's hands."

3 - "Those involved in a dialogue of civilizations: The race now is between you, time and European governments which refused to stop their attacks against Muslims. So do not blame us for what will happen, and we apologize to you in advance if you are among those killed."

The statement also warned Bush that "black days are not over yet." "Remember the tears you shed in September, for what is coming will make you weep blood, God willing."

Meanwhile Hutchison has a 3G [meaning W-CDMA] handset shortage, but is preparing war anyway. This sort of war I like! That sort of shortage means rapidly increasing production [there being no shortage of silicon, plastic, and the other cheap resources used to make cyberphones], higher prices and yummy profits. Soon, right here in my village, Telecom New Zealand and Vodafone NZ will be conducting a war, with both armed with phragmented photon CDMA light sabres. Vodafone is right now rolling out their W-CDMA network, Telecom their CDMA2000 powered 1xEV-DO system. By Xmas there should be no Peace on Earth, Goodwill to All Men, but outright war. Telecom will strike the first blows as Vodafone won't even be ready, still stuck with their obsolete legacy GSM systems.

Around the world, this knock down, drag out fight is getting revved up.

QUALCOMM is the arms supplier to both sides.

Osama says to lay in supplies of food and I suppose gold, I say lay in supplies of silicon, running CDMA software. Bring it on, to coin a phrase ['coin' being silicon chip style].

I love the smell of gunpowder in the morning.

Mqurice

PS: I wonder if you have paid me a royalty yet. You soon will. I'll even accept gold.
