Kerry rigging Carter's 20 year old misery index is sad but another example of the fallout after democrats losing the last two elections....

No different Z than our failed educational system lowering the test standards to create the perception the kids are getting smarter when in fact they are graduating idiots.

No different Z than colleges lowering their standards based upon your skin color. If I was a minority and a political party campaigned on the premise that I was inferior and couldn't take care of myself without voting for them, it would be the reason I wouldn't vote for them.

Bill Cosby shook the world up again by stating the truth no liberal wants exposed...
Good for him!

cnn.com

"I can't even talk the way these people talk, 'Why you ain't,' 'Where you is' ... and I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk," Cosby said then. "And then I heard the father talk ... Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth."

The "misery index" fits perfectly into Twain's third level of lies. Of course people are concerned about unemployment, tuition costs, health care, etc., but the attempt to create and/or exploit such a "misery index" is pure manipulation of people's genuine hardships.

Is it? If it's true and meaningful, who cares? The index, as I understand its purpose, is very applicable to those around me, so it makes sense to me.

When your base is the "haves" and "have mores" as Bush has suggested, then its hard to understand how the war in Iraq, rising deficits, lagging employment etc is hurting anyone. The rich have never felt the pain of the poor. Consequently, a misery index means little to them.

BTW as having one of the best minds [according to DR] on the thread, I may not be posting to you as much. I would hate to upstaged. I'm sure you understand.

Z, If the traditional statistics cited by the Bush administration to support their efforts are less meaningful than the new ones derived by the Kerry team, I'd rather use the Kerry ones. I haven't done the research yet, but if I have some time, I will.

Forget the research over who's "spin" is more valid. Just pay attention to the real data. Unemployment, stock market, consumer confidence, trends, the reality of a cyclical economy, etc. And of course, don't forget about your personal situation and who you think would lead America to a better economy when you get out of college.

Heh, "misery index" my ass.
