It amazes me that so many hawks will swallow that number.

They're all realists. Just ask them.

I haven't heard recently their estimate that they've caught or killed 2/3 of the Al Qaeda leadership. I have, though, seen estimates not too long ago of 17,000-20,000 Al Qaeda fighters left out there. I have no idea where they get that number from, or why they think it is valid.

However, you can be sure that both during the 4th of July celebrations and after the Democrats get their shots in at their convention at the end of July, we will hear a great deal about what a great job of fighting terrorism the Bush admin has done. This will be so whether or not there is another attack on the "homeland," the absence of which has been adduced by these wonderful realists as "proof" of what a great job Bush has done fighting those evil doers.
