Where do you come up with this stuff? It was just a thought. "Cosby Show" was one of my favorite sitcoms growing up, and I still enjoy watching reruns of that show. If anything, it advances hope and optimism among blacks without resorting to "white-washing" their unique culture. I liked the show as well. However, I would disagree about the "white washing" part. They were very upper middle class, very well educated and very professional. That image still only fits a small percentage of blacks and back then it was rare indeed to find that kind of a black family. What it did fit was the image of an upper middle class white family albeit with some ethnic overtones. Back then, I think George Jefferson or Sanford and sons was truer to the black culture. And then there is that new show this season with the guy who used to be on SNL.......I can't think of his name. Having said all that, tv has a way of sanitizing all groups; to whit, the Brady Bunch was an idealized merger of two upper middle class, white families. The reality is often much different. It stands to reason that over the years, Bill Cosby is getting more and more frustrated with blacks literally killing themselves in a cycle of violence and self-pity. It's the unfortunate truth that all of the work he put into building a future for black America is being squandered away with poor excuses. That frustration, plus the fact that Cosby isn't getting any younger, is what's most likely prompting his latest criticisms. Yeah, but that's only part of the picture. Many blacks are starting to move out of the ghettos and assuming the mantle of middle class prosperity. The demographics are not nearly as bad as they were even just 20 years ago. Nonetheless, progress has been fairly slow and I can understand Cosby's frustration. ted
