One of those things everybody says, but nobody substantiates, is that people grow more conservative as they grow older. Always wondered if it was urban (or conservative) legend.

Definitely an urban legend. People who have the least stake in the system (as in paying the bills of the government - taxes) are the most Democrat, the people who have the most at stake (who pay the taxes) are most Republican.

By the same token, the people who have the most at stake in what kind of world we are preparing for our children (People with children) are the most Republican, people who are the least interested in welfare of children (childless young people and very old are the most Democrat.
