In contrast, LCCs provide large pools of skilled workers who are eager to apply their 'craftsman' talents." " > In the late 1980s, I was saying to BP Oil International that we should open a research and development centre in China and hire high IQ young Chinese women. I was having to pay Sunbury research centre about 50 pounds an hour and Deutsche BP about 60 pounds an hour. That seemed a huge amount of money to a lowly-paid Kiwi expat. Since my job involved specifying research and development which the marketing department wanted [on various products], I thought I could get a better job done a lot cheaper while providing a much better standard of living for some people who would really appreciate it. I didn't get my way on that. Nor on some other things either for that matter. Big corporations can be like dinosaurs = big but very stupid. 8 years ago I was promoting the same thing for QUALCOMM, in India and China. I'm sure their decision to do so wasn't affected by my squeaking in the distance, but maybe it helped a little. What is being bought isn't really 'craftman talent'. It's brain-power. In the rich world, people with brains are nearly all being paid quite a lot already. So to get a 130 IQ person, who is able to rapidly adapt to new work materials, processes and other things, it's better to go looking in China and India, where there are a LOT of them and now available to being employed in doing something more useful than chanting mantras in favour of Mao, or cleaning out the hutongs, or some other low-value menial work. Of course capitalists are going to move their money to places which allow them to hire the brainy to do useful things. Paying a 100 IQ person $50,000 a year in the USA isn't as good as paying a 130 IQ person $5,000 a year in Bangalore or Beijing. Now that India and China have realized that totalitarian/communist/socialist poverty isn't all that great, they are finding their cash flow improving dramatically. With 2 billion kilograms of brainpower and 20 million kilograms of high-powered brainpower, India/China can do a LOT of things of high value. There's a tendency to think of humans as fungible. They are not. Just as New Zealanders had to get used to Hong Kongese, Taiwanese, Koreans and Singaporeans overtaking them in GDP per person, Americans are going to have to get used to a LOT of Chinese and Indians being better off than they are. Americans say they are in favour of freedom. That's what freedom does = rewards people who have got ability and apply it. Americans whining about outsourcing are just wanting a free ride at other people's expense. Bad luck for them. There's no reason why 130 IQ Chinese or Indian women should be paid less than 100 IQ lazy American men. Mqurice
