AS, As an old soldier, I know that the military, especially the non-treads (non-career soldiers) are always conflicted. They take and carry out orders as efficiently as possible and they stand by their buddies in firefights and gasthaus brawls. They generally hate their command structure, which includes the President, whoever that may be, but they love America. In the 60s and 70s, they killed the VC and the NVA, but they fragged idiot officers and ncos who could get them killed. I always laugh when Fox News reports that "the soldiers gave The President a standing ovation." Uh, you have to stand at attention for the President, just as you have to stand for any superior officer. When your chain of command applauds, you have to applaud. It isn't voluntary. It's required.
