The F-102 was supposed to be a supersonic interceptor, yet it could just barely break the sound barrier. (Maximum speed: 810 mph). I didn't criticize the delta wing design, just the F-102, a piece of military-industrial crap all of us citizens had to pay for. It had a short life, and nothing to recommend continuing or improving it. It was a failure. That's why they ended up in the National Guard, with the rich boy draft-dodging substandard pilots. A quote from an article YOU cited: "The F-102 program was in BIG trouble. In fact, the performance of the YF-102 was not all that much better than the F-86D Sabre, which was already in production."
