Shorting oil and gas stocks seems like a high risk / low reward play considering terrorism, the issues within numerous exporting nations and the fact that there is very little if any export capacity in reserve.

Oil prices reflect many factors, days of inventory forward cover being one, another being the willingness of players to obtain that last barrel of sweet crude available.

While gasoline and distillates S/D issues are front and center the next 3-6 weeks will reveal that getting to 3,000 bcf on 11/1 wont be done without some struggle. When this begins to register the alarm bells on heating oil will ring even louder.

Profile --what demand is moderating? If you are talking about gasoline the data I have seen indicates the rate of INCREASE in demand may be slowing but not demand itself. If you are talking about NG it is clear demand is putting intense pressure on supply even at 6.40 --Frank

long term osx and oih charts. wanted to post july 3 but too many other activities. the long term osx chart comment you made got me updating. two of these are very wide to obtain better resolution. these charts do not look bad. they are banging against that long term downtrend line for the third time this year. if there is a sag in price here without a breakdown away from this long term downtrend line, a move on the way back up would very likely be a powerful breakout to the upside. i wonder where the majority of analysts are sitting on the osx buy/hold/sell recommendations. besides raymond james (usually bullish on energy) and fred looper (aka leuffer) of bear stearns (always looking for that $25 barrel), i imagine a lot of analysts are gazing that these type of charts on this latest move to see what they might recommend.
