I don't put it past Karl to have some sort of "October surprise" waiting. The thought of Karl Rove trying to manipulate the American electorate is widely expected. This is a very Nixonian Presidency. I don't think Bush catching Osama would do the trick now. Maybe another major terrorist attack, but even that might not work. Bush engenders little trust with Americans now. I doubt that McCain would agree to be Bush's VP any more than he would Kerry.
I'm not ruling out a Bush win, or even a Bush steal. It'll be a close election. I don't think it will be as close as 2000, because people KNOW Bush now. The best thing the Republicans did was keep him hidden through the 2000 campaign, but you can't hide a President for four years, but not for lack of trying. I wonder if we'll get one more REAL press conference out of the chimp?

Since it was so obvious, I can't really take any credit for having predicted the heart excuse to dump Cheney, but this is on Drudge now:

The latest theory about Vice President Dick Cheney's future on the Republican ticket, advanced privately by prominent Democrats, including members of Congress, holds that Cheney recently dropped his personal doctor because of drug addiction so that he could hire a new one, who will conveniently tell him in August that his heart problems have made him unfit to run with Bush!

So reports the NEW YORK TIMES, in a planned Front Page story on Thursday.
