She didn't make it up. There are not many military people in the USA that learn to speak Arabic (and the many different versions of it.) In Iraq alone, there are many different versions. So, they have to tap whomever they can. I don't see anything wrong with that. I think it was unprofessional of her to disclose it on BBC though - that's not putting her country ahead of herself.

I can see why both govts deny it - it would just create more unnecessary problems. Though, they should have just said "no comment" rather than an outright lie. Lies create trust issues.
