Who's proposing giving it up? I'd rather see it extended to passive income, and/or not cut off at 87k. One or both of these measures may be needed to save it. If it's base was extended, it's rate might be able to be reduced, which would help the less affluent. I'd also like to see it truly "lock boxed". Bush SAID he'd respect the "lock box" while campaigning, but quickly flip-flopped on that one.
